Radio Ministry Helps Parents

Home School Companion, a radio show and podcast, is helping parents answer questions about a variety of topics from improving a child’s reading skills, to deciding whether or not to pay allowance.

“The show was a response to all the calls I received from homeschooling parents asking for advice,” says Rose Gamblin, PhD., education specialist. She says that two million children are currently being home schooled in the United States.

This ministry is a partnership between the Review and Herald, Griggs University and Life Talk radio. “The show touches parents who are feeling that they are alone and unsupported in their efforts,” says Candace DeVore, co-host of the show and editor of Kids’ Ministry Ideas.

DeVore and Gamblin take calls, discuss topics with special guests, and sometimes moderate heated debates. “Our show on whether or not to have TV in the home—that had a strong response,” remembers Devore. “Our purpose in a debate isn’t to prove one view right or wrong, but provide a thoughtful discussion so that people can make up their own minds.”

Home School Companion can be heard on 77 affiliated stations each Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Eastern. Live streaming and podcasts are available at www.lifetalk.net.
